Calvin Richard Klein, born November 19, 1942 to a jewish family in the Bronx, was an American designer and a modern fashion icon. He launched the Calvin Klein company in 1968. Renowned for his sleek minimalist clothing the brand has become very popular and has developed an array of products from men and womenswear, lingerie, watches, perfumes and home furnishings. In 1974, Klein designed the tight-fitting signature jeans that grossed $200,000 in the first week of sales. He has won awards and was placed on the International Best Dressed List. In February 2013, PVH acquired Warnaco, which manufactured the Calvin Klein undergarments, sportswear and jeans, and controls the Calvin Klein brand.
